We work with

We support university research projects and early stage startups, test, scale and fund their ideas in San Francisco.

We help companies stay ahead through our insights and network.

We invest in new human-machine interfaces where human needs come first.

About us

We met in San Francisco early 2016. Through our work with startups, creatives, corporations and universities, both in Switzerland and the US we came to realize a few things:

The digital creative economy is growing, and the field of interactive technologies is leading the way. There is ample encouragement of creative projects in European universities and art schools. Interdisciplinary teams are rethinking how we are interacting with technologies around us.There is a lot of freedom for experimentation which leads to new ideas, but often the access and know-how how to bring these ideas to market is missing.

In San Francisco on the other hand startup funding and programs are primarily geared towards technology companies and rapid commercialization. The high density of tech companies, the immense amount of talented people and a different approach to evaluating and funding young companies leads to a monetization pressure that can stifle the creative process.

We believe it’s time for a new type of incubator dedicated to interdisciplinary approaches and teams. A space to test and scale their ideas without losing creative freedom.

By bringing the best designers, artists, researchers & technologists together with the San Francisco ecosystem we allow them to benefit from the best of both worlds. The only way we can stay ahead and build a future we all want to live in is by working together across industries and disciplines. Even the best technologies are empty without the ideas that bring them to life. We are seeking creative minds who can show us the potential. We believe this will lead to successful ventures and in the long run to more comfortable and natural interaction between humans and machines.

Arijana Walcott

Founder  & COO

For the last 10 years Sophie has been building interdisciplinary networks and collaborations in design, art, research, and technology. Before starting DART, she was Associate Director at swissnex San Francisco, Switzerland’s Innovation outpost in San Francisco. Her expertise is the digital creative industry. She was instrumental in building US partnerships and helped position several successful Swiss startups like Mindmaze, Artanim/ Dreamscape, or Faceshift. Being involved in scouting, presenting, match-making, scaling and funding of hundreds of projects and startups between Switzerland, Europe and the US, she knows it’s time for a new type of incubator dedicated to projects with an art and design focus.

Arijana is an AR/VR Expert working at the Swisscom Innovation Outpost in the Silicon Valley. Responsible for consumer related trends, she identifies and captures new trends, technologies and ideas relevant to the Swiss consumer market. I this role she consulted with several Swiss corporates like Swiss Radio and Television, Swiss Federal Railways or the Mobiliar Insurance on finding the right AR/VR partners and use cases. Before starting DART, Arijana's focus was on corporate culture and adoption of new technologies in the workspace. She understands the relevance of a human-centered approach and how important those are not only for the adoption of new technologies itself but for our level of comfort around it.
